, Miami-Dade County’s official economic development organization, is pleased to announce that the organization has made great strides during the first three months of 2010 in expanding and strengthening the Fashion & Lifestyle Initiative.  The Fashion and Lifestyle Initiative, an endeavor to position Miami-Dade County as a premier industry hub for the world’s leading fashion and lifestyle brands.

New Chairman of the Fashion & Lifestyle Committee
On March 9, 2010, Joe Roisman, Executive Vice President of Perry Ellis International, was selected to succeed Diego Stecchi, Director of Latin America & Caribbean for Ferragamo Latin America.  The Fashion and Lifestyle Committee of The Beacon Council is comprised of leading representatives and experts of fashion and lifestyle brands in Miami.  This working group brings together invaluable experience, marketing and developing high-end luxury brands in the region, needed to drive the Initiative forward.

Mr. Roisman’s contributions to Perry Ellis International span over 30 years helping the company to grow into a leading designer, distributor and licensor of apparel and accessories for men and women. The company, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, owns or licenses a portfolio of brands that includes 29 of the leading names in fashion such as Perry Ellis®, Savane®, Jantzen®, Original Penguin® by Munsingwear®, Cubavera®, Laundry by Shelli Segal®, Gotcha®, Callaway® Golf Apparel, Nike® Swim, C&C California®, Pierre Cardin® and Grand Slam®. In addition, Mr. Roisman has been an active member with The Beacon Council since 1998 and currently serves on the organizations Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Beacon Council Honored By the Fashion Group International of South Florida
On March 12, 2010, the Fashion Group International of South Florida honored two Beacon Council’ executives for their leadership in driving The Beacon Council’s Fashion & Lifestyle Initiative forward on to the world stage. Frank R. Nero, President & CEO, and Pamela Fuertes, Vice President of International Economic Development Programs were honored.  Also honored were Eva Huges, Director of Vogue Latin America, Loren Ridinger, Creator of Motives Cosmetics and FashionCents.com, and Silvia Tcherassi, world renowned fashion designer. The Fashion Group International of South Florida is a global, non-profit, professional organization with 5000 members in the fashion industry including apparel, accessories, beauty and home.

2010 Beacon Awards: Mayda Cisneros Couture Receives the Fashion & Lifestyle Industry Award
The Eighth Annual Beacon Awards were held on April 7, 2010 at Jungle Island in Miami, Florida. Ten Industry Awards were given to Miami-Dade County companies in recognition for their significant contributions to the local economy in the areas of job creation, business expansion, corporate citizenship and leadership in their respective industries.  This year’s winner is Mayda Cisneros Couture.  Designer and Owner Mayda Cisneros runs her successful business and haute couture line from Coral Gables, Florida.   Mayda Cisneros Couture continues to expand with each season, gaining international recognition across the globe.    This is the second year the Fashion & Lifestyle Industry Award is given in recognition and support of Miami-Dade’s growing Fashion & Lifestyle Industry.  The previous year’s winner was Rene Ruiz Couture.
