South Africa takes Tournament in Vegas
On February 14, 2011 more than 25,000 fans from around the world filled Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas Feb. 13 to watch day two of the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament finals. South Africa defeated Figi 24-14 to take the Cup and was declared overall tournament winner.
The tournament Plate was earned by Samoa after beating Kenya 26-17; winning the Bowl was Scotland with a 19-14 win over Canada; and USA took Japan for the Shield with a score of 19-12.
Las Vegas hosted the tournament in 2011 for the second consecutive year. The 16 teams competing were: Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Guyana, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, United States, Uruguay and Wales. The USA Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held in the United States with 16 countries participating in 44 matches over two days and is part of the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series.
